IMAGEOUTART

Celebrating LGBTQ+ Literary & Visual Arts

Though it remains a flagship program that we’re incredibly proud of, ImageOut is more than just a Film Festival. Through our ImageOutArt program, ImageOut presents literary and visual arts events in support of our mission to promote awareness, foster dialogue and build community.

Gallery Shows

In the past, ImageOut has administered juried exhibitions unique to Western New York, presenting the work of regional and national LGBTQ+ and allied artists. Community partners have included Out Alliance Gallery Q and the Visual Studies Workshop.

The emerging annual exhibition was established in 2017 with the recognition that Rochester and its surrounding area are home to many amazing university art programs. In 2020, ImageOut received a record number of submissions. Our 20emerging exhibition highlighted 26 artists from six universities and included a wide range of media from sculpture, to painting, to photography, and fiber arts. The exhibition provided opportunities for students to gain exhibition experience, while showcasing emerging talents in our community. The ImageOutArt committee juries the annual exhibition and awards cash prizes to strong work. We hope to encourage young artists to continue to develop their skills by providing funds to aid them in purchasing art supplies and equipment.

ReadOuts

ImageOut has also facilitated ImageOutWrite ReadOuts, open-mic readings where published writers and members of the ImageOutWrite team are on hand to share selections from the ImageOutWrite LGBTQ+ literary journal. It’s an opportunity for LGBTQ+ and allied writers and authors to connect during an evening celebrating the written word. Guests can hear authors’ words in their own voices, purchase a copy of the latest volume of ImageOutWrite, and network with members of our local literary community.
